The Aladdin Product Group develops and supports every facet of BlackRocks information systems needs. Our global teams perform a wide variety of activities from maintaining system stability to growing the features and functionality of our state-of the-art trading and asset management platform, Aladdin. The breath of our responsibilities calls for a diverse range of expertise.

The Core Systems Operations (CSO) organization is part of the Aladdin Product Group at BlackRock. It is responsible for ensuring a fully stable, resilient, scalable, and cost efficient production environment across all our core investment systems.

The Database team is a critical component of the Core Systems Operations group, responsible for every aspect of database technology and strategy at BlackRock, across platforms such as SAP Sybase ASE / Repserver / IQ, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server and Apache Cassandra.

The candidate will work closely with BlackRocks Technology Infrastructure teams, such as Unix, Network and Storage, to deploy and configure high performing platforms and also with the Application Development teams to design, analyze and tune the applications that execute code on the dataservers. Operationally, the team forms a tight knit group of issue management specialists with Client Technology Services and Production Operations.

In addition, the team focuses heavily on programming and automation, writing web tools and applications in Javascript / JQuery, Java and Perl to monitor and visually analyze every aspect of performance associated with the dataservers under their control.

Key responsibilities of the candidate are as follows:

o*Contribute to our software toolset

o Web tools written in Javascript / JQuery

o Monitoring and maintenance utilities in Perl and Java

o Data captures to enable ever more in-depth analysis

o*Analyze the performance profiles of our dataservers

o Historical investigations

o Trending to make proactive recommendations on hardware and configuration

o*Operational support of a wide variety of database technology

o Log issues as they are raised

o Assess issues for severity, troubleshoot proactively and notify key stakeholders

o Focus on service impact and timely resolution of critical investment system issues

o Escalate outages and manage the outage until services is restored

o Coordinate with external vendor technology support

o Once issues are resolved in the short term, focus on long term root cause remediation

o Project based participation

o Plan and deploy major migrations and upgrades

o Benchmark new technologies

o Creatively implement new product features

Bachelors degree in computer science or related IT field preferred

Minimum of 1 year of experience in a technology role, not necessarily in financial services

Keen enthusiasm for acquiring new technical skills

Ability to write efficient and maintainable code

Familiarity with Sybase, SQL, and/or Oracle database technologies

Ability to understand complex issues

Enjoys interactive troubleshooting and support

Ability to build relationships with teams in geographically disperse locations

Self-directed, effective at prioritizing tasks and* managing time

Excellent organization skills and the ability to multi task

Enjoys a high pressure environment, troubleshooting time sensitive critical issues and working with people

Persistent and persuasive; pays attention to details
