Database Administrator

at Langley AFB, VA.   This is the ideal opportunity for a

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Manage in-house machines, devices, computer software systems and network connections to ensure high levels of availability and security of the supported business applications and administers, tests, and implements computer databases, applying knowledge of database management systems.  Participate in the planning and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure system provisioning and maintenance that is consistent with company goals, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements.  Will require both technical level experience and ability to interface with all levels of users.

QUALIFICATIONS - EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION

Required (Minimum) Qualifications

Possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering or equivalent degree

Possess 7 years’ professional experience

Ability to

Manage data management system access

Ability to

ensure proper systems acquisition, maintenance, and sustainment

Responsible for comprehensive accounting of database licenses and equipment purchased, and status of all.  Licenses will be for needed software and database accesses, and will include, but are not limited to, Smarta and Bridge Athletics database

Responsible for monitoring all lease contracts, licensing, and warranty information and will be responsible for safeguarding the Government approved database licenses and equipment access information

Responsible to ensure the data management system meets all Privacy Act and PII requirements and has the ability to be compartmentalized, subsequently ensuring controlled roles and responsibilities

Have the ability to instantly establish or revoke a person’s roles or responsibilities within the database upon Government recommendation

Ensure data management capabilities are adaptable and able to flex with changing and evolving needs

Ensure the data management system has the ability to send actionable alerts to personnel identified by the Government

Work with the Government to identify notification thresholds and methodology

Work with the Government to identify personnel requiring this capability and ensure proper access for those required

Participate in and support capacity planning and the development of long-term strategic goals for systems and software in conjunction with end-users and department managers

Design integrated computer systems and network systems solutions

Monitor the performance of computer networks and integrated systems

Maintain computer networks and systems to enhance performance and user access

Install computer hardware, software applications and respective updates and/or upgrades

Test computer hardware and software performance and provide appropriate or innovative corrective measures

Develop, document, and maintain policies, procedures and associated training plans for system administration and appropriate use

Analyze data to identify or resolve operational problems

Troubleshoot issues with computer applications or systems

Resolve computer network and software problems

Provide technical support for computer network issues

Collaborate with others to resolve information technology issues

Create electronic data backup to prevent loss of information

Develop computer or information security policies or procedures

Implement security measures for computer or information systems

Ensure the integrity and security of enterprise data on host computers, multiple databases, and during data transfer in accordance to business needs and industry best-practices regarding privacy, security, and regulatory compliance

Analyze project data to determine specifications or requirements

As the point of contact on assigned projects, performs a variety of highly skilled duties such as:

Identify information technology project resource requirements

Document operational activities

Document network-related activities or tasks

Collect data and information about customer needs

Conduct research on emerging products, services, protocols, and standards in support of systems software procurement and development efforts

Recommend changes to improve computer or information systems

Update knowledge about emerging industry or technology trends

Conduct system tuning, performance monitoring and database maintenance

Test programs or databases, correct errors, and make necessary modifications

Modify existing databases and management systems or direct programmers and analysts to make changes

Work as part of a project team to coordinate database development and determine project scope and limitations

Write and code logical and physical database descriptions and specify identifiers of database to management system or direct others in coding descriptions

Specify users and user access levels for each segment of OHWS selected software program

Develop methods for integrating different products so they work properly together such as customizing commercial databases to its specific needs

Review procedures in database management system manuals for making changes to database.

Train users and answer questions

Review workflow charts developed by programmer analyst to understand tasks computer will perform, such as updating records

Approve, schedule, plan, and supervise the installation and testing of new products and improvements to computer systems, such as the installation of new databases

Identify and evaluate industry trends in database systems to serve as a source of information for upper management

Develop data model describing data elements and how they are used, following procedures, and using pen, template or computer software

Select and enter codes to monitor database performance and to create production database

Establish and calculate optimum values for database parameters, using manuals and calculator

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Basic understanding of disaster recovery and database backup procedures

Understanding of Government Certification and Accreditation Process

Be proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance

Preferred

Information Assurance Technician (IAT) Level II professional certification

Security Certification

Job is performed in an office setting with exposure to computer screens and requires extensive use of a computer, keyboard, mouse, and multi-line telephone system. The work described herein is primarily a modern office setting. Occasional travel may be required.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFYING FACTORS

As a condition of employment, may be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening, as well as have acceptable reference and background check results to obtain access to military base. Must have reliable transportation to/from work a necessity and must be able to obtain access to military installations.
