Overall Purpose of the Job
This is a MS SQL Server DBA role largely responsible for providing project based transformational database services to the organization as part of the Azure Project Migration Team. We are looking to fill a need to have a highly competent and highly motivated individual in this role. This is a Contract role for 6 months with potential to extend. As such it will require a commitment on your part as well as ours.
Some of the primary responsibilities of this role would include owning, tracking and resolving database related project deliverables on time, maintaining scope, fulfilling requests and resolving architecture findings. Deliverables will include migration of data and databases, set up of database backups, maintenance, monitoring processes and transitioning those repeatable processes to the Operations DBA team. Project deliverables as well as ensuring the production support team has a full transition needed to support SLAs, respond to database related alerts and escalations and the end of the product are a requirement. Documentation must be up to industry standard for all completed deliverables.
This MS SQL Server DBA role requires a service oriented mentality, high sense of ownership of the problems and requests assigned, focus on managing and resolving issues in alignment with the project timelines, strong ability to set and meet commitments, creatively problem solve are critical. Establishing and maintaining communication and trust with the project team as well as with technology customers to keep them updated with status of their requests is key.
Initiating and performing changes on the new production systems and proactively escalating any issues that cannot be resolved within the established timeframes is a core requirement

Position Requirements; we are looking for a person that has:
8 Years of Experience with Database Administration for MSSQL Server and Windows Server Administration Prior Experience in a DBA/SA Team Leadership Role Prior Experience with Azure transformation projects and Azure architecture decision making Experience in troubleshooting and resolving database problems. Experience in Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO), using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools. Experience with backups, restores and recovery models. Knowledge of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for MSSQL Server. Experience in implementing operational automation using scripts. Knowledge of indexes, index management, and statistics. Experience working with Windows server, including Active Directory and proper disk configurations. Good communication and documentation skills. Preferred candidates would also meet the following criteria:
Involvement with the MSSQL Server Community; membership in PASS, active in forums or newsgroups. Certification is a plus; MCTS, MCITP, MVP, Azure Previous experience in either a teaching or volunteer role.
Computer Science/Engineering or a related discipline.
