Our Application Support database team is looking for a senior Microsoft SQL database administrator.
The Database Administrator-Senior provides leadership and direction for database administration activities and individuals. Performs administration and provides operational support for corporate databases including backup, recovery, system availability, performance tuning, installation, security, and troubleshooting. Seasoned senior-level professional experienced in all aspects of database administration. Encompasses full knowledge required within the database specialty area. Is able to function independently with minimal oversight and direction. Provides technical and professional guidance and leadership to peers.
Essential Job Duties
Monitors, installs, upgrades and restores Microsoft SQL servers and databases.
Supports installation, upgrades, and monitoring of third party application software.
Provides solutions to complex issues in areas related to databases.
Proactively identifies and recommends performance and tuning improvements at both the server and application level.
Designs and implements redundant systems, policies, and procedures for disaster recovery and data archiving to ensure data integrity.
Automates redundant, critical, and time consuming administration tasks.
Consults with customers and management to set strategy for current and future architecture related to databases.
Mentors other team members to increase their skill and knowledge.
Works with application development staff to develop database architectures, coding standards, and quality assurance policies and procedures.
Takes advantage of technology conferences, user group events, and online collaboration opportunities.
Six years of database experience, or any combination of equivalent education and experience.
A bachelor's degree in computer science or Information Systems. Degree must be obtained through an accredited institution. Education is verified OR Four years of equivalent technical experience in database administration or related technical field.
Working technical knowledge of database administration and hands on troubleshooting experience.
Working technical knowledge of current database hardware, protocols, and standards.
Interact with others requiring the employee to communicate information.
Operate computers and other IT equipment requiring the ability to move fingers and hands.
See and read computer monitors and documents.
Remain sitting or standing for long periods of time to perform work on a computer, telephone, or other equipment.
Experience with Microsoft SQL database administration.
Experience working in an Agile and/or DevOps environment.
Strong customer service orientation.
Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
Analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Self motivated and directed.
