The Sr. Database Administrator (DBA) will be a key member of the database operations team reporting to the Manager of Database Operations. They will have the responsibility of working with several cross functional teams including Product Development, Project/Program Management, Release Management, QA, Data Architects, Systems Engineering, and Network Operations to work as a team in implementing projects and ongoing maintenance. The DBA will have the responsibility of providing recommendations on the best database designs for projects, review and tune SQL, database server installation and maintenance, 99.95% up-time, disaster recovery, configuration and monitoring of alerts, and designing and implementing recommendations for improving database systems. Additionally, the successful candidate must be able to learn and act quickly a very fast paced environment, supporting a mission critical 24x7 production environment.
Responsibilities:
Expert level support of databases supporting mission critical web applications and internal applications.
Direct and advise other teams towards implementing secure database installations with least privilege access.
Design, install and maintain highly available database systems including, monitoring, security, backup and recovery, and performance tuning.
Provide excellent troubleshooting skills with Microsoft Operating Systems, Microsoft SQL Server and MySQL databases running on predominantly HP and DELL hardware and SAN storage.
Expert level expertise with writing sql scripts, stored procedures and command line batch scripts, to maintain and automate job functions and responsibilities.
Utilize native and 3rd party tools to diagnose and resolve issues or proactive monitoring of systems for capacity management.
Solid understanding of database security including the use of certificates, Active Directory Security Groups, and Kerberos double-hop implementations.
Deep understanding of SDLC policies in a SOX/PCI compliant organization - supporting development, staging, build, and production environments.
Complete tasks required to maintain service levels of project delivery and ensure availability of all site features and functions.
Provide the database best practice design methodologies while continuously re-assessing the infrastructure for optimization opportunities that would save infrastructure costs and/or getting the best value and performance out of our technology assets.
Requirements:
Minimum 5 years of database administration experience including expert understanding of Microsoft SQL Server. Preference will be given to candidates with additional experience with MySQL, supporting mission critical databases in a production datacenter environment.
Proficiency with database support tools provided by database vendors.
Proven disaster/recovery expertise via backup/restore methodology.
Excellent troubleshooting skills and ability to understand complex relationships between components of multi-tiered and distributed applications.
Broad knowledge of common applications and technologies in internet computing (web servers, database servers, load balancers etc.)
Solid working expertise with at least one scripting language (powershell, perl, bourne shell, etc.)
Expertise with at least one highly-available database technology like clustering, replication, mirroring, etc. Preference will be given to candidates with solid transactional replication experience and troubleshooting.
Ability to provide reliable and fast technical support in a dynamic environment.
Leadership qualities and strong procedural and architectural documentation skills with related tools (such as Visio) and demonstrated technical mentoring capabilities
Flexible, adaptable, and able to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to understand and communicate complex technical concepts clearly to peers and management.
Experience with any source control software application.
Experience with SSIS, Reporting Services and transactional replication are a big plus.
Proven experience migrating or upgrading database servers to the latest patch and revision levels.
24x7 on call rotation with ability to make correct decisions in order to resolve outages in production systems.
