Sr SQL Server Database Administrator

Profile

Join PC Connection's IT team as our Sr SQL Server System Database Administrator reporting to the Director Enterprise Technology & Services. As PC Connection's SQL Server Database Administrator you will provide support for MySQL and Progress database environments. You will provide technical leadership, expertise and user support for the SQL Server, MySQL and Progress environments. In addition, you will be responsible for ensuring user support, system performance, data security, and daily maintenance and administration of the above mentioned Database Environments.
The SQL Server, MySQL and Progress Database Administration duties will include:
Implementing and maintaining database level security.
Develop, implement and support high-availability and disaster recovery strategies for the database environments including back-up, restore, replication and fail-over methods.
Responsible for problem escalation to Development teams and third parties as appropriate.
Proactively monitor and manage the database systems to ensure secure services with minimum downtime.
Responsible for ensuring availability and performance of the databases that support the system.
Responsible for improvement and maintenance of the databases to include rollout and upgrades.
Responsible for implementation and release of database changes.
Automation of database administrative monitoring, alerting and maintenance tasks.
Provide support to database development and modeling teams regarding the creation and implementation of logical and physical database designs, and associated objects.
Troubleshoot and solve complex technical problems.
Technical Support will include:
Analyze needs and identify ways of improving computer services to the organization.
Install new Database Server environments and upgrade present Database Server environment.
Monitor and manage database performance for production interactive and batch processing.
Provide project leadership for assigned projects. Prepare detailed project plans. Provide deliverables on time, within budget, and with quality
Research, Development, Design duties will include:
Be creative by looking for new products, technologies, and methods to enhance or improve the infrastructure as well as the processes and documentation that support it.
Establish baseline performance of existing systems. Monitor these systems to identify and resolve performance issues.
Project Management duties to include:
Prepare detailed project plans. Deliver quality solutions, on time, and within budget. Consider future growth when proposing solutions and recognize that doing it right the first time is critical to the success of the department.
Make sound decisions based on the information available. Be open to the ideas and recommendations of your peers and willing to take a new direction with your approach. Take ownership and assume responsibility for decisions made in relation to your work.
Work closely with other support, development, and QA groups to provide complete solutions that meet the needs of all parties.
Project status reports and meetings to keep project leads and managers apprised of work progress.
Project time tracking in the MKS system.
Required Skills:
Understanding of logical and physical database design concepts and practical experience with database transformation and extraction tools and programming languages such as PL/SQL
Ability to understand and deploy both new and existing technologies where appropriate to meet the PC Connections client’s needs.
Ability to work independently while adhering to company policies and standards
Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
Must be able to work in a fast paced organization.
Must be able to provide 24X7 on-call support.
Required Experience:
Requires 5-7 years of hands on system operations experience in the MS Windows operating environment.
Requires 5-7 years of practical SQL Server (2000, 2005 and 2008) database administrative experience.
Practical experience in monitoring and tuning a database to provide a high availability service.
Experience of managing multiple SQL Server environments on medium and large systems
